Senior Connections, a program of SASI

Who We Are

Senior Connections, a program of SASI (Services for Adults Staying in Their Homes) is a friendly visiting program in Evanston that matches caring volunteers one on one with isolated older adults for the purpose of forming a friendship. Our services are available to all seniors at no cost regardless of background, religion, race, nationality, sexual orientation or income level.

Our volunteers are of all ages and from all walks of life. Every volunteer is required to fill out a volunteer application, attend a two hour training, obtain two character references and have a background check. The volunteer gets to "choose" the senior they would like to visit and are personally introduced to their senior by the Program Manager. Together the senior and volunteer decide the kinds of activities they would enjoy doing together as well as the day and time they prefer to meet. Once matches are made, the staff provides on-going support to both seniors and volunteers as needed, and are always available to answer questions.

What We Do

The mission of Senior Connections is to recruit, train and support volunteers who visit and befriend isolated older adults in the Evanston community. These friendships allow seniors to continue their participation in the community and to access additional support and services when needed. Senior Connections serves as 'the eyes and ears' of the community and helps to maintain the quality of life for seniors. Our unofficial motto is, 'Enhancing the caring fabric of Evanston.'
